Andreas Esswein grateful to sign with United City, play with the best

Andreas Esswein shared his excitement for being part of the reigning Philippines Football League (PFL) champions United City Football Club. The 24-year-old midfielder was announced as the newest addition for United City Football Club on Friday afternoon ahead of the 2021 season.
"It feels great to be given the opportunity again to play in the Philippines," said Esswein, who previously played for PFL clubs Davao Aguilas and Global FC. The FC Astoria Walldorf product has said that the club's ambition was a big factor in his decision to join the four-time PFL Champions. "What I like about UCFC is that they are ambitious and they always try to improve year in, year out. They work hard not just to become number one in the Philippines but also in Southeast Asia," he added.
Not only did he join the league's most successful club, he's now playing amongst the best in the region. "It is always nice to have good teammates around you. Having teammates that are proven winners like Schröck, Ott and other experienced players in the team is a big plus and I will be looking forward to train with them and learn from them."
After being away from competitive football for two years, the former Azkals U22 is ready for the new challenge and is ready to prove himself again. " My focus right now is to be the best that I can be. I have been training very hard on myself not just physically but also mentally."
"This time the fans can expect a new Andy. I've matured a lot, I've learned my mistakes and I'm looking forward to prove it to them on and off the pitch," Esswein said.
Andreas Esswein and the United City Football Club will be making history this season as they earned an outright slot in the 2021 AFC Champions League . United City have been grouped with Chinese Super League powerhouse Beijing Guoan, J. league champions Kawasaki Frontale and the winner between Thailand's Chiangrai United and Daegu FC of Korea.
