In pursuit of achieving the country's football dream, a very novel initiative has been launched by national team player and AFC Cup all time leading scorer, Bienvenido Marañon. The Spanish born forward will officially inagurate the opening of the Negros Academia de Futbol tomorrow (November 4, 2022), at the Bacolod Central District Speedway football pitch. The academy aims to provide kids with a positive sporting environment that will nurture their innate passion for the game of football. 

"The idea of building an academy came about when I was playing for Ceres. After my 4 year stint with the busmen, I saw and lived the passion, the support, the love and how much the people and kids like football in Bacolod," said Marañon.

"Bacolod is the city where I feel identified. It is the city of the team that gave me everything, the city where I feel loved and respected. Now, it’s my time to give back and give it my all," added the 36 year old forward, who rose to recognition when he joined Ceres Negros FC in 2015 and would eventually become the leading goalscorer in the AFC Cup history.

The football academy is part of Marañon's long-term plan in establishing a grassroots program in Bacolod that would breed new generation of Azkals and professional football players.

 "The goal of our academy is Integrity through football and make football a lifestyle for them. What we instill here is education through football and life after football."

The academy will cater children ages of 4-16 years old.

Marañon, along with his brother David, will supervise the academy while Filipino licensed coaches as well as Spanish academy coaches from Atletico Madrid and Real Betis will facilitate the academy for footballers as young as 4 years old to 16 years old. 

Negros Academia de Futbol will follow a Spanish coaching methodology and philosophy. Marañon also revealed that the academy plans to join local and international competitions and that each year a team from the Negros Academia de Futbol get a chance to fly out to Spain to attend a training camp.

For the month of November, the Negros Academia de Futbol will have an open door session every weekend and everyone is invited to visit and train with them. Their official season will start on January 2023. 

Marañon encouraged those interested to enroll their kids to the academy to live and experience the real passion for football.
